In this series I am exploring the connection between the self and nature and the environment that shaped us. How we adapt to new surroundings, cutting old roots and growing new ones.

I work in mixed-media, where specific media choices underpin the concept. For example, charcoal and red forestry markers on paper link to both the bush and the forest. Braided artificial black hair points to my African home country and the complicated situation of being a white African of German descent.

Part of this series was first shown at the group exhibition Zusammen Wachsen at the Kulturhaus Karlshorst, Berlin in 2019.
