It has been a while…

For some time I have felt the need to withdraw, as life’s rhythms have gently (and often not-so-gently) nudged me to take stock, question and re-evaluate many aspects of my life.

This process feels scary and exciting at the same time. Vulnerability is one of my most familiar states of being. Wish it wasn’t.

This self-portrait about vulnerability from 2013 has become one of my most identifiable and recurring images in my art…

My interest in researching deep questions has helped me to take a good look, inspecting, weighing and sifting through all parts of my life and being. It is a slow process, but necessary and fruitful.

As I am lingering in this state of in-between-ness, it seems the whole world is too.

It is not a comfortable time.

You are probably wondering why am I sharing this personal story with you on my artist blog?

Deep Listening – What my art is all about

No matter how diverse, all my projects and artistic explorations stem from deep listening – to the world, human and non-human kin (remember the termites?) and my inner voice and knowing.

It is the most important part of my creative process. The stories behind the artwork, the act of making them and the questions which lead up to a work, the insights I get – that is the intriguing fuel for my artmaking.

The final artwork is just the tip of the iceberg.
And too often even this small tip of the iceberg gets lost in the vast oceans.

What if I could invite you to dive into the ocean with me?

I would love to take you on an adventure to experience the incredible depths below the surface, the curious landscapes and the creative wisdom.

In a slow, concious read without distractions.
With time to linger.
To look more closely.
To let ideas and impressions slowly sink into you and settle.

All at your own time and choice, in the comfort of where ever you choose to join me.

Not in the fast-paced Insta world of short-lived bite-sized bits of attention, squeezed between clutter, scandals and other noise.

My art has always been about questioning our questions.

I am not sure yet, if this blog is the best way to contemplate the questions and stories of my art and thinking with you, but it is a first tentative step and a safe space to start exploring the possibilities.

My vision: Slower, deeper, authentic, intimate human connection.
