2022 INERTIA – CountdownGrabowsee

Site-responsive, site-specific artwork, Heilstätte Grabowsee, Oberhavel / Germany

INERTIA“A property of matter by which it continues in its existing state of rest or uniform motion in a straight line, unless that state is changed by an external force.”

The Heilstätte Grabowsee lingers in a state of deep inertia—slowly decaying, unless disrupted by an external force. Through this artwork, I sought to intervene in a small but intentional and caring way.

Each shard of broken glass was washed with my bare hands, cleansing it of years of dust and debris. This act, both delicate and precarious, reinforced the understanding that carelessness or haste can turn even a simple action into something dangerous.

The cleaned glass pieces were then arranged over a found fragment of old, broken linoleum—as if tending to a wound, covering and protecting it from further harm.

Sometimes, inertia is the safest state—until a force strong enough, or gentle enough, arrives to guide it toward new movement and transformation.
